When Allison Craft made the decision to move to the Gulf Coast, the small jewelry design business she had always played around with became something she never could have imagined. Beginning with a small home studio and a hand full of wholesale accounts, life started changing pretty quickly. The mom of 3 found herself with a jewelry business that was exploding. 2012 became a life changing year that began with the honor of being chosen "South Walton's Artist of the Year". A tremendous honor, especially being the first jewelry designer to ever gain this award. Opening a studio in Grayton Beach became a perfect move as it allowed her a space that could flow with this dream of having an inviting space for friends and customers to discover their own style and come in and "play dress-up". As it grew, so did the need for a larger space with more gallery space and more work space, so in 2014 the grand move happened...to the next cottage over! More success came as she won the prized "30A Hotspot for jewelry", "Perfect in South Walton Grand Champion and Judges Choice" for 2014 and 2015. Often asked, "Do you make it all yourself?", the answer is always "Absolutely". Quality, originality and care for every detail are of the upmost importance. "If I'm going to do it, it's going to be done right and with the best materials possible, or why do it?" She credits the overall success of her business with the encouraging attitude of her home community along 30A. "There's just something about living here, it brings out your creative spirit and encourages it."
Her jewelry made of leather and pearls and accents of hand tooled metal work and semi-precious stones are stylistically in line with where and how she lives. The lustrous pearls cling to the wild twists of leather like a seashell tangled in a sailors knot. The jewelry allure is as natural as the white sandy beaches and blue skies that define the beaches of South Walton.
“Every piece is created by me in my studio, or on the beach,” she says. She drills the pearls by hand and strings them along hand-cut conditioned leather. “I take a lot of pride in creating each piece and I hope it means something special to the person who wears it.”
Craft admits the custom jewelry design is a lot of work, but the rewards are bountiful. “It’s so cool to see people wearing my jewelry,” she says. “I just have to smile inside.” Beginning with big names like Paula Deen and Rachel Ray, then with musicians like Sam Bush, John Oats, Jeff Black, Karyn Williams and Brian White. So many amazingly talented people that she now has a dedicated wall in her studio to the countless photos of people that continue to be fans of her jewelry.
Her work has been featured as style favorites in “Everyday with Rachel Ray” and “Nashville Lifestyles”. “I was so excited to see a photo of celebrity chef, Rachel Ray at the White House, wearing a piece I sent her”, Craft says.
Today her one of a kind pieces are represented in boutiques from all over the U.S. and of course, along her back-yard, Florida’s Scenic Highway 30-A. You can find her continuing to add new styles, new materials and new looks to the many collections on the website, in the studio, and in the fabulous stores that carry her work.
When the business grew to the point that she could no longer do it all alone, it really became a "family business" with the addition of Scott Henderson, partner in life and business. "Scott is challenged with keeping the business side of things going and keeping me focused, which is quite a job in itself!" says Allison. You can find Scott at the studio helping customers, working with our wholesale accounts or when he gets a moments escape, in his kayak fishing. "Coming from a career in "Hunt, Fish and Camping" to selling jewelry has been quite a change, but we make a great team," says Henderson.
